From the rolling, sun-soaked terrain of Creston, Defiance Vineyard yields Cabernet of boldness and polish. Cassis, blackberry, and cherry are layered with Earl Grey, white pepper, and warm spice. A dense fruit core is framed by silty tannins and a firm, dry finish—at once powerful and refined.
84% Cabernet Sauvignon, 16% Petit Sirah. Aged in 50% new French oak. 219 cases produced.
Vintage Notes: The 2022 vintage in Paso Robles was widely regarded as a “winemaker’s vintage” due to the demanding and dynamic growing conditions that required precise decision-making in both vineyard and cellar. A dry winter and cool spring delayed early vine development, followed by a hot summer and an intense September heatwave that rapidly accelerated ripening. FARM Paso Robles responded swiftly—adjusting canopy management, irrigation, and harvest timing—and we were rewarded with Cabernet Sauvignons and Syrahs of exceptional quality. A brief cooldown after the heat spike allowed for extended hangtime in some blocks, contributing to wines of remarkable balance. The wines are rich, structured, expressive, and approachable to drink now or cellar for a decade plus.
